Jesus asked Peter and John to go and prepare for the Passover meal. This meal would turn out to be the most important meal for all the disciples because Jesus knew it would be His last. The disciples were oblivious to the significance of this meal, they knew something was about to happen, but they didn’t fully understand it.
I think Jesus knew everything that humanity would have to go through even up to today’s times and on into the future. That is why Jesus chose to suffer in our place. Jesus said this when He picked up the bread, broke it and gave it to the disciples saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Then He did the same with the cup saying, “This cup is the new covenant, confirmed by My blood, which is poured out for you.” This meal may have seemed like just another meal among friends, but when Jesus said these things to His disciples, His loving gestures hinted at the significance of what would come later.
Today we're encouraged to decide. If our Savior, Jesus Christ, came to serve and to love others with a self-sacrificing love, then why can’t we do the same for others? If we start today about thinking of others before ourselves, we would be honoring Jesus and following in His footsteps.
